2019 03 19

On 15 March 2019 road construction and reconstruction as well as gravel road asphalt paving works started after a technological intermission. The Lithuanian Road Administration has implemented the Gravel Road Asphalt Paving Programme 2017-2018 almost at its full scope. The total section of asphalt paved works is 713 km, which makes up 91 percent of the plan.

The intention to implement the programme by 98.3 per cent and asphalt pave 767 km of gravel roads would have been successful if JSC Kamesta hadn‘t rejected to fulfill the contracts duely and faithfully. Meanwhile, legal proceedings have already been started with JSC Kamesta on the compensation of losses incurred by the state. The amount due is 1 MEUR.

In 2015-2016 136 km of gravel roads were asphalt paved. Meanwhile, 128 MEUR have been allocated for asphalt paving of 445 km in 2019.

A list of gravel roads to be asphalt paved in 2018-2020 has been compiled and publicized by the Lithuanian Road Administration. The list includes 1009 km, which shall be asphalt paved by the end of 2020. According to the data of 1 January 2018, Lithuania had 6,815.001 km of gravel roads.

In 2018 the Road Administration saved 78 MEUR, 65 MEUR of which were saved due to public procurement of contract works. Part of the savings were invested in 2018 and another part will be used in 2019.
