A tender procedure for the reconstruction of A. Meškinis (Kleboniškis) bridge near Kaunas was announced
The State Enterprise Lithuanian Road Administration (hereinafter – the Road Administration) has announced public procurement for the reconstruction of the middle bridge over the river Neris, which is called the A. Meškinis bridge, located near the completed bridge (in the section between the kilometres 99.03 and 100.47 of the highway A1 Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipėda).
Tenders will be evaluated on the basis of cost-effectiveness, when the best tender is selected taking into account the relationship between price and quality criteria. The supplier tenders will be evaluated based on the proposed deadline for the completion of the work, additional warranty period of the building, experience of the proposed specialist, and the price.
It is planned that the A. Meškinis bridge could be reconstructed by the first half of 2024. After the reconstruction of this bridge, there are plans to reconstruct the last third (southern) bridge over the river Neris. Once all three bridges will be finished, it will be possible to implement the last stage of the Islandijos Road project, that is, to arrange the section between Biruliškės Intersection and Jonavos Street. After the completion of the entire Islandija Road project, different traffic flows will be separated, that is, transit transport will be separated from local transport. Since the end of March this year, both the newly built bridge (northern) in Kaunas over the river Neris and the viaduct over Jonava Street can already be used.
The entire Islandijos Road project includes construction of the transport hub located at MEGA Shopping and Leisure Centre, Sargėnai district and the A. Meškinis (Kleboniškis) bridge and of a new bridge over the river Neris, construction of a new viaduct over Jonavos Street, and reconstruction of the nearby section between Biruliškės Intersection and Jonavos Street. In addition to the above-mentioned project, another project – the reconstruction of Giraitė Intersection, which is part of the Via Baltica project, is also being implemented. Both of these projects in Kaunas cover a section of about 12 km of the highway A1 Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipeda.
“We thank the road users for their patience, and hope that the Islandijos Road project, fully completed by 2027, will not only increase traffic throughput and safety, but will also help save millions of hours of time that drivers are now wasting in traffic jams on this section of the road, and will also become a flagship project in dealing with traffic management issues”, – says Remigijus Lipkevicius, Director of the State Enterprise Lithuanian Road Administration.
The said bridges near Kaunas over the river Neris, which are on the highway A1 Vilnius-Kaunas-Klaipeda between the kilometres 99.03 and 100.47, are the busiest in Lithuania. It is estimated that on some days the car traffic, that runs on this road section from Biruliškės Intersection to Via Baltica, of which the said bridges are a part, reaches up to 78 thousand cars.
