The transport hub in Vievis will be managed
The contract of the State Enterprise Lithuanian Road Administration (hereinafter – the Road Administration) for the reconstruction of the intersection of different levels (Paparčiai overpass), which is on the kilometre 39.110 of the highway A1 Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda of the national importance, and of the surrounding roads has entered into force. The value of the contract – 10.495 million euros, including VAT. The condition of the so called Paparčiai overpass is the worst in the network of the roads of national importance. The weight of heavy vehicles traveling on this overpass is currently limited.
The Paparčiai overpass, which is located above the highway A1 Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda, and the connecting roads leading to it are planned to be reconstructed and the necessary infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, noise barriers, lighting are planned to be installed in the transport hub. The existing intersections also will be reconstructed into roundabouts, and lighting will be installed.
This overpass is the first in the priority queue under the list of construction, reconstruction, overhaul, project planning, preparation and implementation of road structures (bridges, overpasses, trestles, tunnels), that are located on roads of national importance, that has been prepared by the Road Administration, under which the work of management of the said infrastructure is carried out.
According to Remigijus Lipkevičius, Director of the Road Administration, after the implementation of the reconstruction project of this transport hub, traffic conditions will improve for both transit and local transport. Safe and convenient transport communication, that meets international standards, will be ensured for the road users. The existing infrastructure will be of better quality, the likelihood of traffic accidents will decrease, the travel time will be shortened, and negative effects on the environment will be reduced, traffic conditions for pedestrians and cyclists will improve.
During the performance of the contract, work of reconstruction of the transport hub (two-level intersection) in Elektrėnai municipality (Vievis), at the kilometre 39.110 of the highway A1 Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda, where the highway A1 Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda of national importance, the national road No 221 Vievis-Aukštadvaris of national importance, the district road No 4728 Vievis–Žebertonys–Elektrėnai of national importance, and the district road No 4717 Vievis–Kazokiškės–Paparčiai–Žasliai of national importance intersect, will be carried out. The Road Administration asks road users to remain patient until the reconstruction of the overpass will be finished.
The work of reconstruction will be completed within 14 months from the entry into force of the contract. This period does not include the 3-month technological break, which begins on December 15 and ends on March 15.
