Traffic Safety Day: Roads Without Drunken Drivers

2019 04 03

On April 6 events called Do not Drive Drunken under the umbrella of Traffic Safety Day were held in three major cities of Vilnius, Klaipėda and Panevėžys. The participants of the events were able to test vehicle turnover and safety belt efficiency simulating equipment, to ride scooters, bicycles, hoverboard, to take part in the competition-quizz on traffic safety and to win prizes.

According to the Director of the Lithuanian Road Administration Mr Vitalijus Andrejevas, one of the priorities of the Road Administration is educational activities, which aim to educate a responsible road user. Even though the number of fatalities has been decreasing on the roads, better results are expected. The ambitious goal ZeroVision would be achieved if there are no fatalities on the road by 2050. We are aiming at this through creating safe and comfortable infrastructure as well as educational activities. Such events is another opportunity to remind people that safety on the roads depends on each of us.

The event Do not Drive Drunken provided an opportunity to experience various situations on the road, e.g. to test special glasses, which simulate the reaction of a person under the influence of alcohol. Other types of equipment simulated the way people feel in case of an accident and demonstrated various devices the police use to ensure traffic safety.
