The project “Connectivity across the Lithuanian–Polish border” is picking up speed
Joint-Stock Company Via Lietuva plays a significant role in the strategically important project “Connectivity across the Lithuanian–Polish border,” implemented under the Interreg VI-A Lithuania–Poland Programme. The project, focused on modernizing transport infrastructure at the Lithuania–Poland border, is a cornerstone for improved cross-border connectivity and regional development.
Via Lietuva, in close cooperation with Sejny Poviat, the Commune of Sejny, and Lazdijai District Municipality, is contributing to the development of a unified 22.26 km cross-border transport corridor linking Giby (Poland) with Kauknoris (Lithuania). Rehabilitation of the national road No. 2505 (Leipalingis–Kapiamiestis–Kauknoris) is now underway, improving an essential 10 km section that connects seamlessly to routes modernized on the Polish side. These efforts will improve connectivity, road safety, and support the integrated transport corridor linking Poland and Lithuania.
Such infrastructure upgrades are crucial for stimulating economic activities, supporting tourism, and reinforcing the region’s integration into the wider European transport network. During the already ongoing works, the contractors will carry out activities to improve road surface quality, drainage systems, and safety infrastructure, in line with the EU’s sustainability and road safety objectives.
Via Lietuva representatives also took active part in the Opening Conference organized by the Project Lead Partner Sejny Poviat in July 2025 and in the Study Visit hosted by the other Polish Partner – Commune of Sejny. Participation in events organized by the project partners provided an excellent opportunity to exchange planning experience, strengthen cross-border cooperation management practices, and develop a shared understanding of traffic management principles in the border region.
The organization continues to showcase the project progress through its national media channels and official website, emphasizing how modernization of roads of national significance contributes to better European connectivity and regional cohesion. By investing in cross-border road modernization and harmonizing technical standards, Via Lietuva is playing a vital role in fortifying regional resilience. Strengthened connectivity between Lithuanian and Polish networks not only facilitates efficient transport but also underpins socio-economic stability. These durable and sustainable infrastructure improvements create the backbone of a resilient territorial system capable of withstanding future disruptions.
Together we help make the Lithuanian-Polish border region safer, more accessible, and a better place to live and work.
